Ingredients
- 2 ¾ cups bread flour, plus extra for dusting
- 1 packet fast-action dried yeast (about 2 ¼ teaspoons)
- ½ teaspoon granulated sugar
- ¾ cup plus 3 tablespoons warm water
- Large pinch of salt
- Your favorite pizza toppings
Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Dough
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the bread flour, dried yeast, and granulated sugar. Mix well with a wooden spoon.
- Make a well in the center of the flour mixture, and pour in ¾ cup plus 3 tablespoons of warm water. Add a large pinch of salt.
- Stir the mixture with a wooden spoon until all the flour is incorporated and you have a soft dough.
- Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead it for about 5 minutes, or until it becomes smooth and elastic.
Step 2: Prepare the Oven and Roll Out the Dough
- Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C). Place a pizza stone, heavy baking sheet, or an upside-down baking tray on the top shelf to heat up.
- If you allowed the dough to rise further, punch it down to remove the air. Divide the dough into two equal portions.
- On a floured surface, use a rolling pin to roll out one portion of the dough into a large circle. Transfer it to a floured baking sheet.
- Add your favorite toppings evenly over the dough.
- Carefully slide the pizza from the baking sheet onto the preheated stone, baking sheet, or tray in the oven.
- Remove the pizza from the oven and repeat with the second portion of dough.
FAQs
What temperature should the water be for activating the yeast
The water should be warm, around 100-110°F (37-43°C). If the water is too hot, it can kill the yeast, and if it’s too cold, the yeast may not activate properly.
Can I make the dough ahead of time?
Yes, you can prepare the dough up to 24 hours in advance. After kneading, cover it tightly with plastic wrap and store it in the refrigerator. When you’re ready to use it, let it come to room temperature for about 30 minutes before rolling out.

Not Sandra, but in my experience, it’s good for up to 3 days. Just keep it wrapped tight!

I never knew pizza dough could be this simple, gonna try it this weekend. Love finding new recipes!
Doubt this ‘quick and easy’ dough can compete with real Italian pizza. Prove me wrong.
Not sure about the water temperature for the yeast. Anyone tried this and got a good rise on their dough?
It works great! Aim for lukewarm water, not too hot or you’ll kill the yeast.
Can I use gluten-free flour for this dough? Always looking for good vegan options.
