- 6 sweet Italian sausage links (4-ounce)
- 2 tbsp butter
- 1 medium yellow onion sliced
- ½ medium red onion sliced
- 4 cloves garlic minced
- 1 large red bell pepper sliced
- 1 medium green bell pepper sliced
- 1 tsp dried basil
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- ¼ cup white wine (or more, if needed)
Cook the Sausage
Heat a large skillet over medium heat.Add the sausage links and cook them until they are browned on all sides, which should take about 5 to 7 minutes.Once cooked, remove the sausages from the skillet and set them aside.Slice them into bite-sized pieces.
Sauté the Veggies
In the same skillet, melt 2 tablespoons of butter over medium heat.Add the sliced yellow onion, red onion, and minced garlic.Cook for about 2 to 3 minutes, stirring occasionally.Add the sliced red and green bell peppers to the skillet.Season with 1 teaspoon each of dried basil and dried oregano.Pour in ¼ cup of white wine, stirring to combine.Continue cooking and stirring until the peppers and onions are tender, which will take about 5 to 7 minutes.
Combine and Simmer
Return the sliced sausage back into the skillet with the veggies.Reduce the heat to low, cover the skillet, and let it simmer for about 15 minutes. This allows the flavors to meld together and the sausage to heat through. If the mixture seems a bit dry, add a little more white wine as needed.
