Total Time 50 minutes mins
- ⅓ cup plain bread crumbs
- ½ cup milk
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1 whole onion diced
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 pound ground pork
- 2 large eggs
- 2 tbsp parmesan cheese grated
- ¼ bunch fresh parsley chopped
- 3 cloves garlic crushed
- 2 tsp salt
- 1 tsp black pepper ground
- 1 tsp italian herb seasoning dried
- ½ tsp red pepper flakes
Prepare the Ingredients
Start by gathering all your ingredients.Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil and lightly coat with cooking spray to prevent sticking.
Soak the Bread Crumbs
In a small bowl, combine the bread crumbs and milk. Let the mixture sit for about 20 minutes, allowing the bread crumbs to absorb the milk fully. This will help keep the meatballs tender.
Cook the Onion
Heat the olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the diced onion and cook, stirring occasionally, until the onion becomes soft and translucent, about 5 minutes. Lower the heat to low and continue cooking for another 10-15 minutes until the onions are very tender.Set aside to cool slightly.
Mix the Meatball Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, gently combine the ground beef and ground pork. Add the cooked onions, soaked bread crumb mixture, eggs, Parmesan cheese, chopped parsley, crushed garlic, salt, black pepper, dried Italian seasoning, and red pepper flakes.Use a rubber spatula or your hands to mix everything together until well combined.Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for about 1 hour.Chilling the mixture makes it easier to shape the meatballs.
Form the Meatballs
After the mixture has chilled, shape it into meatballs about 1½ inches in diameter. Arrange them in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet.
Serve and Enjoy
Serve the meatballs with your favorite pasta, in a sandwich, or with a side of vegetables.Enjoy your delicious homemade Italian meatballs!
