Ingredients

  • 24 pretzel rods
  • 1 cup red candy melts
  • 1 cup white candy melts
  • 1 cup royal blue candy melts
  • Red white & blue star sprinkles
  • Parchment paper or wax paper

Instructions

  • Step 1: Prep your workspace
  • Line two baking sheets with parchment or wax paper. Set up your sprinkles in a small bowl nearby so you're ready to go — candy melts set fast!
  • Step 2: Melt the candy melts
  • Melt each color separately in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring between each, until fully melted and smooth. If the candy melts are too thick, stir in 1 teaspoon of coconut oil or vegetable shortening to thin them out.
  • Step 3: Dip the pretzel rods
  • Hold a pretzel rod by the uncoated end and dip it into the melted candy, turning to coat about two-thirds of the rod. Let the excess drip off, then gently tap the rod against the edge of the bowl.
  • Step 4: Add the sprinkles
  • While the candy melt is still wet, immediately sprinkle with red, white & blue star sprinkles. Work quickly — the candy sets fast!
  • Step 5: Let them set
  • Lay the dipped pretzel rods on your prepared parchment-lined baking sheet. Let them set at room temperature for about 10 minutes, or pop them in the fridge for 5 minutes to speed things up.
  • Step 6: Optional swirl effect
  • For a fun marbled look, drizzle a contrasting color over the dipped rod using a spoon or piping bag before adding sprinkles. The blue-and-white swirl is especially stunning!

Notes

  • Work in batches — only melt one color at a time if you're working solo so nothing sets before you're ready
  • Don't overheat the candy melts — stir frequently and go slow to avoid seizing
  • Tap off excess — too much candy melt makes them lumpy; a gentle tap against the bowl edge gives a smooth, even coat
  • Add coconut oil if needed — if your candy melts are too thick, a small amount of coconut oil makes them silky and smooth
  • Sprinkle immediately — the window is short! Have everything ready before you start dipping
  • Store at room temperature — keep them in a cool, dry place; the fridge can cause the candy to "sweat" and look cloudy
