Instructions

Step 1: Preheat Oven & Prepare Equipment

Preheat the oven to 375°F (175°C). Line a wire rack with aluminum foil and poke holes in the foil. This allows excess fat to drain away while baking. Place the rack on top of a large baking sheet.

Step 2: Make the Glaze

In a small bowl, mix together ketchup, brown sugar, and Worcestershire sauce. Set aside. This glaze will be spread over the meatloaf toward the end of baking for a rich, caramelized finish.

Step 3: Mix the Meatloaf Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together: Milk, Barbecue sauce, Eggs, Worcestershire sauce, Garlic,Salt and pepper.Once combined, add the ground beef, onions, and bread crumbs. Use a spatula or clean hands to mix just until combined. Avoid overmixing, as it can make the meatloaf dense and tough.

Step 4: Shape the Meatloaf

Transfer the mixture onto the prepared wire rack and shape it into a loaf shape about 10 inches long, 5 inches wide, and 2 inches tall. Press gently to form a uniform shape.

Step 5: Bake the Meatloaf

Place the meatloaf in the preheated oven and bake for 40 minutes.

Step 6: Add the Glaze & Finish Baking

Remove the meatloaf from the oven and generously spread the glaze over the top and sides. Return it to the oven and bake for another 10 minutes or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C). If you want an extra caramelized crust, broil the meatloaf for 2 to 4 minutes at the end.

Step 7: Rest & Serve

Let the meatloaf rest for at least 5 to 10 minutes before slicing. This helps retain its juices. Serve with mashed potatoes, roasted vegetables, or a fresh salad.

FAQs

Can I use a different type of meat?

Yes. You can substitute ground turkey, chicken, or a mix of beef and pork. If using leaner meats, add a little olive oil or extra milk to keep it moist.

2. Can I freeze meatloaf?

Yes. Meatloaf can be frozen before or after baking: Before Baking: Shape the meatloaf, wrap it tightly, and freeze for up to three months. Thaw overnight in the refrigerator before baking. After Baking: Let it cool completely, slice, and freeze in airtight containers. Reheat in the oven at 350°F (175°C) for 20 minutes.
